"Faros 2014" a new article published in GoGreece.com (http://tiny.cc/i4vi1x)
" The Greek islands have been a faros, or lighthouse for me for the past 21 years: a source of the Greek light that artistically embraces and reveals, yet more importantly the sweet light that glows within the hearts of the Greek people.
Spiritually, the Greeks are not people of the 21st century, rather that of the Nineteenth. Friendliness to strangers, or xenophilia, remains more the rule than the exception amongst island folk.
Many times have I and my classes been invited into someone's home, the Greeks smiling and beckoning. Served we have been with glyka or honeyed sweets, soft drinks, juice and sometimes raki. They ask sincerely "Ti Kanete?" or 'How are you?' and mean it from the heart. In this way, we learn about each other and rejoice in the knowing.
The island Greeks on Anafi, a dust mote of an island about 20 kilometers from Santorini, have a saying: "Sto kalo," meaning ever to the good, to the light.
This is why I return to the islands, to touch the light and rediscover the warmth within the human heart."
